Director of Training and Development

Advantage|ForbesBooks has an exciting opportunity for a seasoned training and development leader and coach. Advantage works with top tier business professionals to position, promote, and market them as the thought leader and expert in their industry, community, or marketplace.

The mission of the Director of Training & Development is to coach and develop the A Player talent needed to hit our growth goals of 1,000 Active Members by December 31, 2018. Working both individually and with teams, the DTD will provide opportunities for Team Members to build their skills and capabilities through relevant training that drives growth and value both for the Team Member and the Company.

The Director of Training & Development provides support to Team Members through various types of training initiatives including group sessions and workshops introducing new systems and processes department- or company-wide, or individualized training to support Team Members’ unique professional needs. Additionally, the Director of Training & Development will build a career pathing program to provide all Team Members visibility of their potential for growth. He/She collaborates with company leaders to improve functional areas, teams and individual contributors, creating synergy and alignment around corporate goals and strategies to improve organizational productivity and effectiveness.

Outcomes (expected within the first 12 months):

  • Workforce of >75% A Players. Assist managers with recruiting and retaining A Players. Provide direct assistance to managers with feedback, career pathing, ongoing professional development, and performance management for their direct reports. Challenge managers assumptions and push them to continue to grow their people. Drive performance management and review processes for Managers and Team Members.
  • Average >120 hrs of professional development annually per Team Member. Lead onboarding and ongoing professional development efforts company wide so every Team Member is progressing on a plan of professional growth.
  • >200 Hours of Companywide training. Create a targeted curriculum that develops the skills needed to meet our growing business demands. Emphasis on building leadership and management training for all team leaders. Document and record all trainings to grow into a library of learning for all new Team Members.
  • Average tmNPS score of >50 Monitor Team Member feedback on a weekly basis and keep a pulse on Team Member happiness. Ensure programs that engage and challenge our teammates are consistently offered and delivered.
  • <10% Annual Voluntary Turnover of A or A-Potential Players. Be an advocate for internal advancement and position evolution by identifying internal candidates for new positions. Create a growth oriented culture that makes it very difficult for A Players to leave.

  • Ability to develop people. Coaches people in their current roles to improve performance, and prepares them for future roles. Understands training techniques to include Adult Learning in the work enviroment.
  • Communication. Speaks and writes clearly and articulately without being overly verbose. Maintains this standard in all forms of written communication, including email, presentations, plans and instructional guides.
  • Flexibility/Adaptability. Adjusts quickly to changing priorities and conditions. Copes effectively with complexity and change.
  • Honesty/integrity - Does not cut corners ethically. Earns trust and maintains confidence. Does what is right, not just what is politically expedient. Speaks plainly and truthfully.
  • Strategic Thinking/Visioning. Able to see and communicate the big picture in an inspiring way. Determines training needs of and opportunities for the Team along with threats, through comprehensive analysis of current and future needs.
  • Teamwork. Reaches out to peers and cooperates with Managers to establish an overall collaborative working environment. Strong interpersonal skills support overall ability to build and empower teams through collaboration with Team Members and manager.  Ability to grow collaborative working Teams within the organization.

Qualifications:

  • 5 - 8 years experience as a career coach, trainer or similar role
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management, Communication, or Business.
  • Experience establishing and measuring key performance indicators and dashboards to track performance results.
  • Knowledge of learning and development trends and best practices
  • Excellent public speaker and presenter comfortable in front of 100+ people
  • Certification in DISC, Myers Briggs or other assessments a plus
  • Position is in Charleston, South Carolina and reports to the Chief Operations Officer.
