Position Overview:
The Director of Book Sales & Distribution Partnerships plays a pivotal role in supporting authors through their publishing journey, ensuring their books achieve maximum sales impact. This highly detailed role demands precision, excellent follow-through, and exceptional customer care. The ideal candidate is highly organized, communicative, and skilled at managing multiple tasks simultaneously while maintaining strong client relationships.
Key Responsibilities:
- Product Sales:
- Develop and implement strategies to grow product sales (print, eBook, audiobook) by 30%+ per annum.
- Collaborate with members to determine the most effective publication strategies.
- Build and expand sales partnerships across product types, channels, and geographies.
- Inventory Management:
- Monitor inventory levels, reduce overage fees by 20%+ per annum, and manage reprints, binding conversions, and inventory reductions.
- Own the reprint process and collaborate with production/design teams on revisions as needed.
- Distribution Partner Management:
- Manage relationships with key distribution partners, including Ingram, Firebrand, and ACX/Spotify.
- Negotiate contracts, oversee transitions to new distribution partners, and ensure seamless operations.
- Ensure metadata accuracy and coordinate updates post-publication.
- Liaise with retailers, including B&N Stores, to maximize market placement.
- Collaboration & Reporting:
- Work with the VP of Publishing Operations to ensure timely fulfillment of commitments.
- Analyze data, generate reports, and provide insights to track and communicate progress on sales goals.
- Partner with the Book Marketing team to ensure all promotional and metadata requirements are met.
Expected Outcomes:
- Annual product sales growth of 30%+.
- Inventory overage fees reduced by 20%+.
- Achieve a Net Promoter Score (NPS) of 60+ for book distribution.
- Successful execution of distribution strategies, including seamless transitions when required.

Preferred Skills & Experience:
- Minimum of 7 years in a publishing or content retailing environment.
- Deep understanding of printing, paper, binding, and physical packaging; experience working with printers is a plus.
- Knowledge of US retail sales and distribution best practices, services, and rates.
- Strong skills in sales, negotiation, and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple projects at various stages while meeting deadlines and maintaining quality standards.
- Experience working in a fast-paced, innovative environment.
- Bachelor’s degree required.
Reporting Structure:
This role reports directly to the VP of Publishing Operations and works closely with internal teams and external partners to achieve organizational and author success.
Work Environment:
This is a remote position within a professional work environment, offering flexibility and the convenience of working from home. Occasional travel to the headquarters in Charleston, SC, will be required, ensuring team members remain connected to the company's core team and culture.
